Why Do People Cyberbully?
The increased accessibility to cyberspace could be one of the main reasons why cyberbullying is on the rise.
The following three factors promote this trend:
Anonymity of the Cyberbully
1. Using online platforms means the identity of the aggressor is difficult to be identified
2. The aggressor can also take on another identity (conceal true identity)
Inadequate Supervision
1. There may be limited adult monitoring of the child’s use of digital platforms
Boredom and Peer Influence
1. Children are impressionable and frequently moves with the fad of technology. This, along with the inadequate supervision, may result in uncontrolled and wrong use of technology
2. There may be a perceived sense of belonging to the negative peers who engage in different forms of cyberbullying
